"It's our first gig - it's going to be amazing!" Elevation Pictures has debuted the first official trailer for John Carney's latest film, Sing Street. Carney broke out big at Sundance in 2007 with his beloved musical Once, and he's coming back to the festival again to premiere Sing Street this month. The plot this time follows a boy growing up in Dublin during the 80's who escapes his strained family life by starting a band and moving to London. The cast of young unknowns includes Lucy Boynton, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Aiden Gillen, Jack Reynor, Kelly Thornton, Ferdia Walsh-Peelo. The soundtrack for this is killer. All the 80's bands you know and love, from Duran Duran to The Clash. This looks like it will be fun! I'm planning to catch it at Sundance.
Here's the first official trailer for John Carney's Sing Street, direct from Elevation's YouTube:
Description from the Sundance guide: With 1980s Dublin mired in recession, Conor’s parents move him from a comfortable private school to a rough inner-city public school where the scrappy 14-year-old forms a band. Mentored by his older brother, a dropout who’s hip to cool tunes, Conor starts to compose lyrics and the glam-ish band finds its “no covers” groove. Renaming himself Cosmo, he convinces the mysterious, über-cool Raphina to star in their music videos (and tries to win her heart in the process). Sing Street is both written & directed by Irish filmmaker John Carney, who broke out with Once in 2007 and followed that up with Begin Again (formerly known as Can a Song Save Your Life?) in 2013. The film will premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival this month, but doesn't have any release plans in place yet. Thoughts?
