Nothing Feels Safe About This First Trailer for The Invitation

The Invitation

Drafthouse Films has released the first trailer for Karyn Kusama’s The Invitation. If that sounds familiar, it’s because this is a film we’ve been telling you about for months.

We caught it first at SXSW last March, then Rob Hunter reviewed it at Fantastic Fest in the fall. In his review, he cited its “near perfect balance between suspicion and paranoia.” It’s a strong slowburn with a host of interesting character work. It’s the kind of movie I don’t want to tell you more about. Just go see it. It’s a nail-biter.

The teaser has similar intentions. It doesn’t give away anything too juicy about the film’s plot. Here’s what you need to know: it takes place over the course of an evening at a dinner party. Among the friends assembled, there’s a great deal of history, grief, tension and paranoia. The rest is for you to find out on your own.

Here’s the trailer:

The Invitation will be released by Drafthouse Films on March 25.
