First Quick Teaser Trailer for Taika Waititi's 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople'

Hunt for the Wilderpeople

"Introducing Ricky Baker. He's a real bad egg." The very first teaser trailer for one of the best films from Sundance this year has debuted online. The latest film from Kiwi filmmaker/comedian Taika Waititi is the survival adventure Hunt for the Wilderpeople, starring Sam Neill and newcomer Julian Dennison as the "bad egg" Ricky Baker. He plays a foster care kid with a history of causing trouble who is taken out to a home in the countryside, and ends up going on the run in the "bush" with his uncle. The two figure out how to survive, and it's a entertaining experience full of heart and humor. I wrote in my review from Sundance: it's a "film that makes me feel good, that made me laugh my ass off, and made my smile out of happiness".

Here's the first teaser trailer for Taika Waititi's Hunt for the Wilderpeople, direct from YouTube:

Description from the Sundance guide: "Raised on hip-hop and foster care, defiant city kid Ricky gets a fresh start in the New Zealand countryside. He quickly finds himself at home with his new foster family: the loving Aunt Bella, the cantankerous Uncle Hec, and dog Tupac. When a tragedy strikes that threatens to ship Ricky to another home, both he and Hec go on the run in the bush. As a national manhunt ensues, the newly branded outlaws must face their options: go out in a blaze of glory or overcome their differences and survive as a family." Hunt for the Wilderpeople is written & directed by New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi, of Eagle vs Shark, Boy and What We Do in the Shadows previously. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival (read my glowing review) and is still looking for a US distributor. Stay tuned for any updates.
