Aw, this is just marvelous. Animator Payton Curtis has put together an outstanding tribute to the legendary Ray Harryhausen, the special effects pioneer who passed away in 2013 at the age of 92. The video is titled Thanks Ray and what makes it extra special is that it also features two of its own brand new stop-motion characters created for this who kick back and watch Ray's best work on VHS. I love that the VHS tape is called "Ray's Gold", just perfect. As always anytime we come across something worth-sharing like this, we have to stop and mention it, no matter if it's a few weeks or a few months old and I'm happy to feature this tribute. I do love Harryhausen's movies and all his stop-motion work, it's still amazing to watch even today.
Thanks to Live for Films for the tip on this. From Vimeo: "A stop motion tribute to the legendary special effects master, Ray Harryhausen. Ray's creations and imagination had an immense influence on my early life. Unfortunately, Ray passed away on May 7th 2013, but left behind a wealth of material that will charm & amaze generations to come. The clips used in this short are borrowed from various films, all of which are listed at the end of the piece. Buy or rent one, get yourself a bowl of popcorn and enjoy!" Thanks Ray was made by Payton Curtis. He also reminds us there was no budget, "it was simply a labour of love… I really think Ray would have enjoyed this." I might agree, this is a very nice way to remember all his iconic work.
