Film School Rejects is proud to be sponsored for the next few days by the folks at North Star Games, who have just today launched a Kickstarter campaign for a game that we think will probably be of interest to many of our readers: Wits & Wagers Epic Geek. This is a party game about the epic stories everyone loves such as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Batman, and Harry Potter.
I’ll be honest, for a long time I’ve been unable to play your run-of-the-mill movie trivia games with most of my family and friends. They don’t find it fair and usually someone ends up storming out of the room, vowing to never play with me again. What can I say? It’s sort of my thing to know things about pop culture.
That’s where Wits & Wagers comes in. It’s more of a betting game than a trivia game, because you can bet on any of the guesses provided by the other players. So you can win by making educated guesses, by playing the odds, or simply by knowing the other players. It’s not just about how much trivia knowledge you have. It’s the kind of game that you or I might be able to play with someone like Ken Jennings, that Jeopardy! record holder. More importantly, it’s the kind of game that many of my own friends and family could play with someone like me.
To celebrate the 11th anniversary of Wits & Wagers, they are making this Epic Geek Edition. It includes all kinds of geek-friendly topics, including Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Batman, Harry Potter and plenty of superheroes. There’s even going to be a fun “Parody” genre in which you might find questions about Monty Python, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Spinal Tap (it does go all the way to 11, after all).
