LucasFilm
Have any plans for Monday, October 19?
If you do, don’t cancel them. This probably won’t take all day. But you should know, based on this report from ScreenCrush, that it’s likely that Disney and Lucasfilm will be releasing a new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens that day. You will also be able to pre-order your tickets for the December 18 release.
According to the report from Mike Sampson at ScreenCrush, this will likely be the last full trailer for The Force Awakens. It will debut online and hit theaters attached to Spectre on November 6. Making Star Wars further confirmed the trailer news, saying that Disney will air the trailer during Monday Night Football on Disney-owned ESPN. That’s vertical integration or cross-promotion or whatever. Either way, the trailer will be online shortly thereafter for those of you who think “football dumb.” (I don’t blame you, sometime’s it’s pretty dumb.)
As for the tickets, Sampson further clarified with an update:
Major U.S. theater chains were provided today with ticketing information on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We have seen the document, which requires theaters to have all their ticketing information entered into the system by 8:00am ET on Friday, October 16 for release at 12:00pm ET to ticketing web sites (this does not necessarily mean tickets will go on sale to the general public at that time, but that is a pretty solid bet). This includes tickets for both Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the Star Wars Marathon, which will begin with The Phantom Menace at 4:00am on December 17 and end with The Force Awakens later that night at 7:00pm. Those tickets will cost $50. No word yet on extras (posters, pins, etc.) at this point. We’ve also been told to watch for an official announcement tomorrow on StarWars.com
So there you have it. Time to get out those credit cards, flock to your favorite movie theater website (*cough* Drafthouse.com *cough*) and secure your tickets for opening night. Or the day before, should you want to do the full marathon and attempt to survive The Prequels. Either way, it’s time for The Force Awakens to become very real for Star Wars fans.
Just in time to begin getting excited about Episode VIII…
