"You've seen our family - do you think there is something wrong with the way we live?" Roadshow Films has debuted a trailer for Simon Stone's The Daughter, a dramatic familial thriller. Geoffrey Rush stars along with Paul Schneider in a story about a family and secrets from the past. It's set in a run-down New South Wales town, but it looks like it has some great imagery in it anyway. Also starring Miranda Otto, Anna Torv, Sam Neill, and Odessa Young. This starts out seeming fairly basic, but by the end it really ramps into being a full-on thriller, kind of reminiscent of The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo a bit. Take a look.

The story follows a man (Paul Schneider) who returns home to discover a long-buried family secret, and whose attempts to put things right threaten the lives of those he left home years before.The Daughter is both written & directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Simon Stone, making his feature directing debut with this film. Featuring Geoffrey Rush, Miranda Otto, Anna Torv, Sam Neill, Paul Schneider. This premiered at the Sydney and Melbourne Film Festivals late last year, with a release in Australia planned for next year. It most recently played up at TIFF and the Venice Film Festival. The Daughter is still seeking US distribution.
