This movie used to be called Scouts vs. Zombies. I still can’t decide whether I liked that original name better, or if I’m now partial to Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. The latter really doesn’t roll off the tongue quite so easily. Regardless of the name, I’m into the concept. From Shaun of the Dead to Zombieland, it’s a proven formula, the combining of comedy and the zombie apocalypse. Why not add Boy Scouts to the mix?
As we can see in the first trailer, of the red band variety, this is going to be a juvenile ride if there ever was one. Plenty of perverse humor (it’s about teenage boys, after all) and some gloriously sloppy blood effects. Whether or not the sum of all these parts in the trailer come together as a full, entertaining movie remains to be seen. But I won’t deny getting some laughs here. My inner 13-year old thinks this trailer is hilarious.
Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse is due in theaters on October 30. Here’s the official synopsis:
Three scouts and lifelong friends join forces with one badass cocktail waitress to become the world’s most unlikely team of heroes. When their peaceful town is ravaged by a zombie invasion, they’ll fight for the badge of a lifetime and put their scouting skills to the test to save mankind from the undead.
