Bryan Cranston Gets Blacklisted in the First Trumbo Trailer

By the time Dalton Trumbo was blacklisted in Hollywood for being a member of the Communist Party, he was already a very successful screenwriter. So when he decided to fight back, he wasn’t exactly at a disadvantage.

That’s where the trailer for Trumbo begins, with Louis C.K. (who we can only imagine is playing himself in another time) pointing out to Bryan Cranston‘s Trumbo that he talks like a radical, but lives like a rich guy. But as Trumbo explains, the rich guy has a tendency to be a winner, which give his radical thoughts a chance to thrive.

The trailer has a great deal of energy, pulling back the curtain on Trumbo’s struggles with being blacklisted and fighting back. The cast is loaded. It’s not just Cranston, but Helen Mirren, John Goodman and Diane Lane. The film has a November release scheduled, which makes it a prime suspect for some awards chatter. And we all know how those in Hollywood handing out awards love a story about Hollywood. Seems like a perfectly reasonable contender for end of the year hardware. It also seems like a perfectly enjoyable and interesting film.

Who are we to say no to Bryan Cranston, anyway?
