The Worst Special Effects Ever, A Supercut

The job of a visual effects department is often a thankless one. Unless you end up on a stage in February accepting an Oscar for your work, it’s likely that the average moviegoer doesn’t know who you are. Chances are that they didn’t even stay long enough into the credits of your movie to see your names. But it’s in the visual effects, especially in today’s highly digital era, that some of the most interesting movie magic is made.

The video above has none of that magic. This supercut from World Wide Interweb highlights some of the absolute worst visual effects in the history of moving pictures. Not surprisingly, a lot of these involve sharks and none involve the original Jaws. Why? Because practical effects are awesome.

In this quick exploration of bad effects, no movie is safe. Larger productions like the Star Wars Special Editions and Air Force One are lampooned right alongside productions that were probably just doing the best with the limited resources they had. Either way, the result is pretty bad.
