The Revenant Trailer: Inarritu’s Latest Pits DiCaprio Vs. Hardy

After an achievement and success like Birdman, filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (or is it just Alejandro G. Inarritu now?) and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki could have taken a nice long vacation. Instead, they’ve made this other movie, The Revenant, which looks like yet another bold achievement that is sure to receive more accolades.

The Western thriller reunites Inception stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy for a true revenge tale that first pits the Wolf of Wall Street against a Bear of the American Wilderness. Then Hardy steals DiCaprio’s shit and from there it’s all Romeo Unchained going after Mad Max in the snow-covered woods. Domhnall Gleeson is there, too, in case you thought it couldn’t get any better.

No women, though. As far as I can tell from both the trailer and the IMDb entry, there are no actresses anywhere near this movie (unless the bear performer is female). So, I guess it immediately fails the Bechdel Test. But that’s got to be the reality of a 19th century fur trapper’s life. And who has time for a tossed-in romantic subplot when all that’s important is man versus man versus nature? And breathing. And cinematography all done with natural light.

Here are a couple more good male actors appearing in the movie: Will Poulter and Lukas Haas. And here’s an official plot synopsis for the movie, which Inarritu co-wrote with Mark L. Smith (Vacancy) based on the novel by Michael Punke:

Deep in the unchartered American wilderness, hunter Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is severely injured and left for dead by a traitorous member of his team, John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). With sheer will as his only weapon, Glass must navigate a hostile environment, a brutal winter and warring tribes in a relentless quest to survive and exact vengeance on Fitzgerald.

The Revenant arrives in theaters this Christmas.
