The Night Before Red Band Trailer: Spend Christmas Eve With Seth Rogen

Plenty of classic Christmas songs and movies were made by Jewish artists, so why shouldn’t we now get one of the latter from Seth Rogen, a guy who loves to remind us of his Jewishness? Well, that trait of his is part of the humor of The Night Before, a holiday comedy set during Christmas Eve in which he appears throughout wearing a sweater with a giant Star of David on it. And that’s not the extent of where the religious jokes and gags seem to go, judging by its hilarious first Red Band trailer. His character also tells a packed cathedral holding midnight mass that his people did not kill Jesus. After throwing up all over the center aisle.

The Night Before (formerly known as X-Mas) re-teams Rogen with his 50/50 writer-director Jonathan Levine and co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as well as with his regular collaborator (pairings include Superbad and Neighbors), Evan Goldberg. Accompanying Rogen and Gordon-Levitt as the third “wise man” at the center of a night-in-the-life narrative is Anthony Mackie. And that’s Jillian Bell (22 Jump Street) already stealing scenes as Rogen’s baby mama (it’s not clear if she’s his wife or not, and I’m not judging). In the trailer we also see Mindy Kaling and Lizzy Caplan. Finally, making his last starring appearance, posthumously, is the FAO Schwarz piano from Big.

Ethan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Isaac (Seth Rogen) and Chris (Anthony Mackie) have been friends since childhood, and for a decade, their yearly Christmas Eve reunion has been an annual night of debauchery and hilarity. Now that they’re entering adulthood, the tradition is coming to an end, and to make it as memorable as possible, they set out to find the Nutcracka Ball – the Holy Grail of Christmas parties.

The Night Before opens on November 25th, giving us ample time to see it over and over before Christmas.
