Not very long ago in a convention hall in San Diego, J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy presented some new information about Star Wars: The Force Awakens alongside writer Lawrence Kasdan and the cast, new and old.
These are some of the highlights from that panel, which has both the Comic-Con audience and Twitter buzzing for the new Star Wars film.
1. J.J. Abrams showed a behind the scenes video (embedded above) that included a number of images from the production, including one of Simon Pegg in an alien costume (without the head), confirming that Pegg will appear in the film, albeit incognito.
2. Hundreds of practical creatures were made for the production. The walking alien seen in the Omaze video that J.J. Abrams put online earlier this year is named Bobbajo.
3. Star Wars: Rogue One begins shooting in three weeks.
4. Domhnall Gleeson‘s character’s name is General Hux. He’s definitely evil and commands troops from Starkiller Base, which is a stronghold of The First Order. It’s also a reference to Luke’s last name in George Lucas’ original Star Wars draft.
5. Gwendoline Christie on Captain Phasma: “I found it exciting that there was a female stormtrooper.” She also said that she was interested in playing a female character that “doesn’t care what she looks like in the flesh.”
6. Adam Driver when asked whether or not Kylo Ren is evil: “We didn’t have a lot of conversations about bad or evil. Whats the difference between being bad and being right?”
7. Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford all appeared alongside the new young stars of the franchise. Ford was making his first public appearance since his plane crash. Said Ford, “Here I was doing something I did so long ago, and I will tell you that it felt great. I wasn’t sure it would, but the company was the right company. The director was the right director. Larry wrote us a wonderful story. And I was proud and grateful to once again be involved.”
The are a good looking trio:

– Harrison Ford also called the script for The Force Awakens “remarkable,” noting that he was excited to do it. Not bad for a guy who has traditionally been pretty grumpy about it. The entire panel ended with J.J. Abrams asking, “Wouldn’t it be cool if we did something insane right now?” He proceeded to invite everyone to get up and walk to a surprise Star Wars Concert elsewhere in San Diego:

And as promised, the mass exodus happened.

What’s funny is that everyone in Hall H basically just cleared out as Kevin Smith’s panel was about to start. But he got to visit the set of The Force Awakens, so I’m sure he’ll be fine.
