This post is brought to you by Target.
As I’ve mentioned numerous times, this job often gives us a chance to do something silly. It’s not enough to be able to watch movies and television and be paid to write about it. Sometimes we also get make perfectly valid excuses to be adults and play with kids toys.
Such is the case today with our second partnership with the fine folks at Target. As they did for Avengers: Age of Ultron, the folks in the toy department at Target dropped a little care package on the doorstep of Reject HQ. Inside we found a cornucopia of dino-goodness to celebrate the upcoming release of Jurassic World, which hits theaters this Friday.
It didn’t take long for us to be tearing apart packaging, setting up our dino habitat and creating narratives for how dinosaurs might live amongst the many action figures, posters and other pop culture paraphernalia here at the HQ. It’s a story that, for me, goes all the way back to the original Jurassic Park. Ten year old me had all the dino-toys that I could convince my mom to buy. I carried them around in my backpack next to my worn copy of Michael Crichton’s book. To be sitting on the floor, once again creating stories about dinosaurs and life’s inherent nature to find a way, was to be back in my childhood happy place. So I decided to turn it into a little story with a camera and some very mediocre Photoshop skills. Ten year old me would be immensely impressed.
Here for your enjoyment is our very silly story, “Jurassic Breakout!” It’s the tale of what happens when everyone goes to sleep and the dangerous dinosaurs of Jurassic World come to life.
See, it’s a heroic family adventure like Homeward Bound, only with more perceived bloodshed at the end. Did our velociraptor team meet their doom in Indominous Rex? Did they escape and return to their home on Isla Nublar?
We’re not telling. No spoilers, after all.
The more important question: What will you create as an adult (or child, we suppose) playing with Jurassic World toys?
