Sound Off: Pixar & Pete Docter's 'Inside Out' - What Did You Think? ~ Cinenus

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? Meet the little voices inside your head. Pixar's latest animated movie, their 15th feature, has arrived in theaters worldwide. Pete Docter directs Inside Out, about the emotions inside our mind, and how they affect the story of one young girl who moves to San Francisco. Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling & Phyllis Smith voice the emotions Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust & Sadness. Kaitlyn Dias voices the girl, Riley. So how is it? To open the door to my emotions, I absolutely loved Inside Out - a new favorite up there with Monsters Inc. It's a wonderful, wonderful film - one of Pixar's best in years, a remarkably original and vibrant return to form for the incomparable animation studio. The way it visualizes the world "inside the mind" and the way the mind is designed (where the emotions exist) is brilliant. It's unlike anything I've ever seen, so colorful and unique and interesting, and yet so perfectly modeled after the way our own brains actually work. From the moment the film started, I welled up with tears (thanks to Michael Giacchino's lovely score) because everything had already hit me right in the heart. It is such a beautiful film that speaks deeply about all of us.

What I really love about Inside Out is how it gives each and every individual audience member a chance to get to know themselves better than they currently do. While it is a story about an 11-year-old girl, it's also about how we handle these emotions, and how much they control us. There are incredibly inspired moments of revelation and understanding that transcend anything that should be in a movie "made for kids" (yes, this stuff is definitely for adults too) yet it is still so entertaining. I can't praise this movie enough, and the final message about how important all the emotions are, even the bad ones, is astonishingly apt. Don't over-think the emotions and the way they're presented in this, just enjoy another wonderful cinematic work from Pixar.
