Music Box Films to Release Pablo Larrain's Acclaimed Film 'The Club'

Pablo Larrain's The Club

Glad to report some distribution news for one of the acclaimed films from the Berlin Film Festival this year. Music Box Films has announced that they will be distributing Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larrain's latest work, titled The Club (or originally El Club), which premiered at Berlinale in February. The film is about a small "club", or place where disgraced priests and nuns go to live in seclusion in a small Chilean town. It's a wicked, unsettling, smart film that nearly left me (and everyone who saw it) in shock. "We've followed Pablo Larrain’s impressive body of work closely over the years and The Club further establishes him as one of the most masterful filmmakers in the world today. We're excited for the opportunity to bring this dark, mordant yet compassionate film to North American audiences," said Ed Arentz of Music Box Films. Mark this down.

"We are extremely pleased to have Music Box Films on board as the North American distributor of THE CLUB. The response to the film has been amazing ever since it premiered at the Berlinale in February 2015 and Music Box Films has repeatedly proven its expertise at distributing powerful films." Peter Danner, Funny Balloons.

Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín has previously directed the feature films Fuga (2005), Tony Manero (2008), Post Mortem (2010), and No (2012). He will next direct the Fabula produced feature film Neruda, reuniting him with actors Luis Gnecco (No) and Gael Garcia Bernal. Guillermo Calderon, Daniel Villalobos and Pablo Larraín wrote the original screenplay for El Club. The film played at Berlinale, and Larrain's previous film No opened at Cannes. Larrain has also lined up a new project with producer Darren Aronofsky and actress Natalie Portman. No release date is specified in the press release, but we're hoping Music Box Films plans to release The Club sometime in (late) 2015. Stay tuned for updates and more info on the film.
