Nygaard is going geeky. It has been officially announced by Marvel Studios at Marvel.com that acclaimed actor Martin Freeman will be taking a role in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War movie, to be directed by brothers Anthony & Joe Russo. This is yet another sequel to Captain America following The Winter Soldier last year, but it also expands the universe by being the first segue into the "Civil War" era. No exact details are specified regarding the character he'll be playing, so unfortunately anything else will have to remain a mystery for the time being. Aside from Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie, the Civil War cast may also include Daniel Brühl, Frank Grillo and Chadwick Boseman. So who is everyone?
Here's the quote regarding Martin Freeman's casting included in the news at Marvel.com:
"From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in 'The Office,' Martin's range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us," said "Captain America: Civil War" Producer Kevin Feige. "We couldn't be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
Martin Freeman recently gained a huge following for his performances on BBC's "Sherlock" as Dr. Watson, and FX's "Fargo" as Lester Nygaard, not to mention playing Bilbo in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy, which just wrapped up last year. He also appeared in Edgar Wright's The World's End, The Eichmann Show and is in the upcoming Fun House. Any ideas who he might be playing in Civil War? Word is that Daniel Brühl is playing an antagonist of some sort, so maybe Freeman will join him? Or he is destined for a role as a regular human being? We'll have to see. Marvel Studio's Captain America: Civil War arrives in theaters starting May 6th, 2016 next summer. We'll keep watch for more updates now that Age of Ultron is playing.
