The answer to the headlining question is yes, it sure is more fun.
YouTube editor David Johns has created an homage to the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer that sets the images of J.J. Abrams’ upcoming film to the theme from the 1986 Tony Scott film Top Gun. His description instructs us to imagine a world in which Jerry Bruckheimer and Tony Scott made Star Wars with Tom Cruise. I’m not sure I want to imagine that kind of world. Having recently watched the HBO documentary Going Clear, I would think that a Tom Cruise space epic would be more Battlefield Earth than Star Wars.
That said, Johns has created a fun trailer remix. And I love the logo at the end. This all makes me want to see a Star Wars Anthology movie about an elite school for X-Wing pilots. Wedge Antilles could be Goose and Luke Skywalker could be Maverick. Would that make Jek Porkins the Ice Man character, or perhaps the Tim Robbins character Merlin?
This is already out of hand. Just watch the video.
