VOTD: The Evolution of the Dreamworks and Disney Logos Over The Years

Disney Logo evolution

Ethan Jones has created a series of compilation videos showing how various animated logo openings have changed and evolved over the years. Most recently Jones has released videos of the Walt Disney Pictures and DreamWorks logo openings.

Evolution of the Disney Logos

According to Jones, the 1985 animated film The Black Cauldron was the first to feature a modified version of the intro logo. The Walt Disney Pictures evolution video spans Black Cauldron to Into The Woods.

Unfortunately, intro logos from 2015 Disney films couldn’t be added because none were release digitally yet when this video was created. But it’s already confirmed Cinderella also has a custom intro! If you’re wondering why you might’ve seen the Walt Disney Castle logo in Disney movies before 1985, that just means you watched a newer version where it was added afterwards. Originally, “Walt Disney Presents” cards were used in those times.

It also looks like Disney’s upcoming film Tomorrowland will also feature a opening variation.

Evolution of the DreamWorks Logo

Jones’ DreamWorks logo video spans from The Peacemaker to Mr. Peabody & Sherman.

Movies featured in this video: The Peacemaker, Shrek, The Ring, The Cat in the Hat, Shrek 2, Shark Tale, Bee Movie, Kun Fu Panda, Madagascar 2, Monsters vs. Aliens, How to Train Your Dragon, Scared Shrekless, Kun Fu Panda 2, Rise of the Guardians, The Croods and Mr. Peabody & Sherman. Unfortunately, intro logos from 2015 DreamWorks films couldn’t be added because none were release digitally yet when this video was created. But it’s already confirmed Home also has a custom intro! For those wondering what SKG stands for, it’s an acronym of the last names of the original founders of DreamWorks Pictures: Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen. Note: DreamWorks intro logos that only differ in music or hue choices without any other changes were not added in this compilation.
