Ryan Gosling in Talks to Star in Villenueve's 'Blade Runner' Sequel

A sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic Blade Runner has been in the works for awhile now, but more recently it's been making some real progress toward getting in front of a camera. In February, Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve was hired to be at the helm of the film that will be produced by Ridley Scott, director of the original film, with a script from Hampton Fincher, co-writer of the Blade Runner, with Green Lantern writer Michael Green contributing as well. And now Variety reports Drive and Crazy Stupid Love star Ryan Gosling is in talks to take the lead role, though we have no idea what kind of character he will be. Read on!

Harrison Ford (who popped up in today's Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer) has already been confirmed to return as Rick Deckard, and much like the real time that has passed since the original film was released, the story takes place decades after the events of Blade Runner, which was actually set in the year 2019. Gosling has been linked to several projects lately, including Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of Disney's theme park attraction The Haunted Mansion and Whiplash director Damien Chazelle's contemporary musical La La Land with Emma Stone. It's unclear if he'll actually end up starring in all of these films, but since this won't start shooting until summer 2016, I imagine that all these films fit into his schedule pretty easily. We'll find out soon enough.
