Thanks to all the excitement from Star Wars Celebration this weekend, the buzz on last week's new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is still going strong. And thanks to a statement made by Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy and will reprise the role for Episode VII this winter, people are talking about his voiceover heard in the trailer, the only dialogue heard in the film besides the moment we see Han Solo and Chewbacca again. It's clear the dialogue is from Return of the Jedi, but Hamill has people thinking the dialogue was changed for the trailer. But that's not the case.

Speaking to CBS LA, Hamill said he had some trouble while recording the voiceover for the trailer, explaining that he kept saying, "My father had it," instead of "My father has it." Some fans have taken this to mean that maybe Darth Vader isn't really dead, and he could show up in The Force Awakens. But let's be clear. The dialogue we heard prominently in the trailer is lifted directly from Return of the Jedi and its content hasn't been changed, with the exception of one of the lines ("You have it too.") being merely switched out of order. So what's Hamill talking about? Well, if you listen carefully to the dialogue in the trailer, you'll hear some reverberation and echo after each line. That's what Hamill recorded. J.J. Abrams wanted to contrast the voice of older Luke Skywalker with the voice of young Luke Skywalker. This isn't new dialogue from The Force Awakens, and Luke isn't speaking directly to anyone. The point of the voiceover is to hint at a new hero that has the powers of the Force within them. The question is whether it's Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley) or Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).
