In case you hadn't heard, Valiant Entertainment is gearing up to begin their own cinematic universe, and they're beginning with a five picture deal at Sony Pictures that will kick off with adaptations of their Bloodshot and Harbinger comics. The former will be the first to arrive, with an eye towards being released sometime in 2017, and THR reveals John Wick directing duo David Leitch & Chad Stahelski will be at the helm with a script from Kick-Ass 2 scribe Jeff Wadlow and The Thing remake writer Eric Heisserer. Even if you're not interested in Valiant comics, it's Leitch and Stahelski directing is great.
For those who don't know, Bloodshot follows a soldier brought back from the dead by a secret government agency and turned into an unstoppable killing machine with no memory, not unlike a fantastical version of The Bourne Identity or a less hellish version of Spawn. This project has been in the works since as far back as 2012, and while Kingsman and Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn was only rmuored to be involved before, he's now confirmed to be an executive producer on the project along with Jason Kothari. Bloodshot isn't the most popular comic, but it's one of Valiant's most well-known.
As for Harbinger, that series focuses on a next-generation X-Men-esque storyline about a group of superpowered beings on the run from the Harbinger Foundation, an organization run by mysterious philanthropist Toyo Harada. Heisserer is also on board to script that film, but by himself this time. As for directors, the list of candidate hasn't been revealed, and there's plenty of time to get the project in order with Bloodshot being the first out of the gate. Producing will be Valiant's Dinesh Shamdasani, along with Original Film's Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe. Do we really need yet another comic book universe, especially from the lesser celebrated Valiant comics? I'm not a fan, but maybe there's enough demand.
