How to Destroy Paris (In Your Movie)

Some technical discussions are vague enough to be meaningless, and while this focus on Edge of Tomorrow‘s destruction of Paris is still easy enough to digest, it also achieves a few specifics that make it interesting.

First, VFX supervisor Nick Davis explains specifically where the utilization of physical sets had to end and where VFX wizardry had to take over. It gives at least a little insight into the constraints of a big budget action sequence that can’t flood an iconic block in a major European city, but which can still integrate practical elements into the digital world. Second, Davis’ enthusiasm is palpable, and the poetry he uses to describe innovation is as infectious as his explanation of how the magic trick is done.

Plus, any excuse to post about Edge of Tomorrow again, right?
