Brent Spiner Confirmed to Somehow Return in 'Independence Day 2'

It looks like Jeff Goldblum and Vivica A. Fox won't be the only returning cast members from Independence Day who come back for the sequel from director Roland Emmerich. The filmmaker took to Twitter to reveal that Brent Spiner will be back for Independence Day 2 . In the original film, Spiner played Dr. Brackish Okun, one of the scientists who worked on the secret government program studying aliens before the invasion happened in Independence Day. He was a weird guy, and we would have thought that he died after his encounter with one of the aliens in the first film, but apparently he's alive and kicking.

Here's the tweets in question from Roland Emmerich and Brent Spiner with the news:

However, the film has also gained a new cast member with young actress Joey King (The Conjuring, Wish I Was Here) taking a role in the film. And if you want to feel old, King wasn't even born when the first film was released. As of now her character hasn't been specified, so we'll be waiting to hear some details about that. What we know so far is that Jessie Usher is playing the son of Will Smith's character from the first film (though the actor won't be back) and Liam Hemsworth has one of the other lead roles. Charlotte Gainsbourg also has a role and we're hoping Bill Pullman will be back in some capacity too. Stay tuned for more.
