James Gunn Says Marvel Studios Isn't Attending Comic-Con 2015 ~ Cinenus

Marvel Studios has been the king of Comic-Con for years now, pretty much ever since the Marvel cinematic universe was announced to lead up to The Avengers. However, now that the blockbusters franchises have been established and fans are pretty much on board with whatever they churn out, it sounds like they're going to reduce their presence at the huge convention, starting this year. On his Facebook page, when asked about attending Comic-Con this summer, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn said, "I'm not sure. Marvel isn't going so I'm not sure I will either." Wait, Marvel isn't going to Comic-Con?

While it seems highly unorthodox that Marvel Studios, the feature film company that wouldn't exist if it wasn't for fans of comic books, to sit out Comic-Con completely, Gunn likely means they won't be having their own panel this year. And when you consider the fact that The Avengers: Age of Ultron will have already been in theaters for two months, and Ant-Man will arrive a couple weeks later, spending money on a panel that will market material to fans who are already on board does seem like it's just burning money. And let's not forget that Disney has their D23 Expo in August to show off some Marvel goodies.

However, without a panel at Comic-Con, that means fans who don't attend D23 probably won't get a sneak peek at Captain America: Civil War , which will arrive in May of 2016, well before Comic-Con that summer. That's a little bit of a bummer, but again, it makes perfect sense. Also, let's not forget that Marvel had their own event last year to announce the entirety of Phase Three of their cinematic universe, so it's not outlandish to think that they can't just have their own events from now on. Though that does screw over fans excited for the movies, but they'll still buy a ticket no matter what, so there's no real loss there.

But just because Marvel Studios won't have their own panel, doesn't mean there won't be some kind of presence. Surely they'll still have their booth at the convention, and with Spider-Man entering the Marvel cinematic universe, you can bet Sony Pictures is going to be ready to start the hype this summer. Plus, Warner Bros. Pictures should be happy, because this means all eyes will be on what they reveal from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice along with whatever else they have in store for the DC Comics cinematic universe. Comic-Con will still be packed with good stuff, but Marvel Studios will be missed.
