Idris Elba to Play a Gangster Rapper in Harmony Korine's 'The Trap'

Last fall, both Jamie Foxx and Benicio del Toro had joined Harmony Korine's next film, a revenge tale called The Trap . However, it looks like only one of those actors has stuck with the project as THR reports Focus Features is now picking up the US rights to the film, but with some changes to the cast. Idris Elba will be stepping up to take the role meant for Jamie Foxx, which is that of a gangster rap artist with a friend (del Toro) who took the fall for a robbery the two committed years ago. But now that friend is out of jail and looking for revenge. Honestly, you had me at Idirs Elba as a gangster rapper, but there's a great cast here.

In addition to Elba joining the project, Al Pacino, Robert Pattinson and Korine's Spring Breakers scene stealer James Franco are all in final talks to have roles in the film as well. To know their, roles, we have to get more specific about the plot as Rico (Elba) is at the top of his game, ready to head to the Grammys, when Slim (del Toro) is released after 14 years in prison. Rico's fame and fortune doesn't sit well with Slim, but it's the fact that he also married his old girlfriend and raised his son that really pisses him off. Pattinson will play a leader of a crew of surfers hired by Slim for his revenge plot, while Franco will play Rico's manager. Meanwhile, Pacino is Slim's parole officer. Count me in!
