
It was all the way back in 1997 that Dutch director Mike van Diem won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar with his debut feature, Character. This is, of course, the sort of event that is typically looked at as being career-making but for whatever reasons van Diem's credited work in the years since has amounted to just a pair of short films but he makes his return to the big screen a whopping eighteen years after his debut success when his sophomore feature, The Surprise, hits Dutch screens in May.An eccentric multimillionaire signs an agreement to have his life terminated.
